Misenous is built on a narrative-first data architecture. Every novel is organized into a hierarchy that mirrors how authors think about their work: a series contains books, books contain chapters, chapters contain scenes, and scenes contain drafts. But the real power is in the element layer that sits alongside that hierarchy.

Characters aren't just names mentioned in text - they're managed entities with tracked traits, defined relationships to other characters, and explicit connections to the scenes where they appear. Locations, items, and story resources work the same way. The result is a rich relationship graph that maps the internal structure of a fictional world.

The writing interface uses a custom-built rich text editor with @mention functionality, allowing authors to reference characters, locations, and other story elements directly in their prose. These mentions aren't just formatting - they create live connections between the text and the element management system, building the relationship graph as the author writes naturally.

AI feedback operates on this structured data, not just raw text. When the platform analyzes a draft, it has access to the full context of who these characters are, where they've been, and what's happened to them. That's the difference between a grammar checker that catches a misspelling and an intelligent system that catches a contradiction in a character's backstory.
